The study that raises this possibility examined fifty people with plaque buildup inside the main artery that supplies blood to the brain. The condition, called "arteriosclerotic narrowing of the carotid artery," can be an ominous prelude to an eventual stroke. Each subject was given 40 mg each of alpha-tocotrienol and gamma-tocotrienol. After eighteen months, fifteen of the twenty-five tocotrienol takers appeared to benefit from the program. For seven of them, the cholesterol accumulation decreased, opening the artery to a greater flow of blood and decreasing the risk of stroke."
